There's no wonder that mobile homes are becoming very popular among people as they are both a practical and popular choice that offers the security of owning a home at a very less expense. One of the most common types of mobile homes is the kind that is installed on an elevated base.

This type of mobile home is often required to have hardware installed around the baseboard perimeter of the foundation, and ventilation is needed when baseboards are used.

What's the use of skirting in mobile homes

A high foundation of any home is vulnerable to intrusion by pests, and time. Skirting creates a deterrent effect on these elements while helping to control the moisture and temperature below the structure. This is especially true for mobile homes, which are typically manufactured using thinner floor and wall system materials.

Basically, manufactured home skirting helps maintain a constant temperature in the home to prevent frozen pipes and high humidity levels that can lead to condensation and moisture problems that could damage wood floors and support members.

Temperature control

Maintaining a median temperature in a mobile home with a high base is important for another reason. The air under the house creates a natural barrier that protects the floor and the rest of the structure from temperature extremes during the summer and winter months. This helps keep the interior of the home at a controllable temperature, which saves on heating and cooling costs.

Need of fresh air flow

The need to protect the sub-area of a mobile home with curbing creates a need for good ventilation. Enclosing the foundation of the mobile home is necessary, but a constant flow of moving air must also be present under the home.

Ventilation helps to keep the sub-area dry, which protects the wooden elements of the sub-floor or support posts from rot, mold, and infestations by pests that are attracted to moisture, such as ants and termites.

Hazardous gases

Another reason why mobile home planking needs ventilation to eliminate the gases that become present under the house. Plumbing lines that carry sewage away from the bathrooms often create fumes in the sub-area that become trapped unless adequate ventilation is included in the design of baseboards.

Radon and carbon dioxide are also potential hazards to the air contained in the foundation laid. Cooking and heating fuels such as natural and LP gas create vapors that get trapped in a mobile home as well.

Combustion Gas Fixture

Gas appliances such as water heaters and ovens are often installed in mobile homes. These require a steady supply of fresh air for combustion in order to function properly. The curb ventilation provides this air supply to these appliances without the need for special air supply lines which must be installed in mobile homes without baseboard ventilation.
