Aesthetic and practical, the wardrobe is undoubtedly the piece of furniture to integrate into your bedroom, especially if you lack shelves and cupboards. More imposing than a chest of drawers or a low sideboard, it offers real storage capacity, perfect for storing a lot of things in an orderly and organized manner. Before setting out to find the model that meets all your criteria, a few practical questions should be asked. Follow the leader!

On what criteria should you choose your bedroom wardrobe?

The dimensions

The dimensions of your storage unit must above all adapt to the size of the room. Low wardrobe or large wardrobe, the right model will be above all one that respects the surface area without cluttering it up, while accommodating the expected volume of business.

Before buying, think about the location you want to assign to the cabinet, and do not forget to visualize all of your furniture, especially if you opt for a model with hinged doors that can come up against another object. Also, note that it is strongly recommended to leave at least 5 cm between the top of the furniture and the ceiling.

If you choose a wardrobe closet, do not hesitate to use the modeling of a 3D plan made on a computer in order to have a very precise idea of the dimensions. Allow between 80 and 100 cm for shirts and pants, 130 cm for dresses, and 170 cm for coats. Finally, whether it is a closed cupboard or a fitted dressing room, the depth should be on average 60 cm for hanging clothes and between 30 and 45 cm for shelves.

The opening system

An average bedroom wardrobe has two to four doors, although some XXL models may have five. If their number gives an idea of the volume of business you can store, also pay attention to the opening system:
Sliding doors: embedded between two rails, these doors slide along the cabinet. In addition to its very contemporary design, the sliding option is ideal for optimizing space, as it allows you to move freely while keeping the cabinet open. This is the preferred opening system if you have a small area.

Hinged doors: these are the ones found in classic bedroom wardrobes. While they have the advantage of being less expensive than the previous ones and making all of the content accessible at a glance, they are not ideal if you are short on space.

The material

If you are looking for a sturdy and resistant model, choose solid wood. This is the most authentic material, the cabinet being originally designed in wood. Oak, bamboo, pine, it's up to you to choose the essence that will enhance your interior and give it an elegant, ethnic touch.

You can opt for particleboard, which remains more affordable than natural wood. While appreciated for its quality, this material remains ineffective in the face of humidity. Plywood, which is made up of several layers of wood glued together, can be an attractive solution for tight budgets. Are you looking for an inexpensive wardrobe? Think of MDF (medium-density fibreboard), a material that is obtained by gluing together several wood fibers. Be careful, however, it may contain chemical components: so take care of the composition of your furniture!

The little decorative extras

It is possible to brighten up your bedroom wardrobe by focusing on small decorative details. Many models also offer mirror doors, perfect to give your furniture even more character, but also to make it more practical. Also, you can opt for melamine wardrobes, they look pretty good. You can reach out to vendors that are experts in assembling and building melamine wardrobes and discuss your requirements.

The mirror cabinet brings light to your room by reflecting it and offering it more depth thanks to the effects of perspective. So prefer if you sleep in a small space!

If you tend to easily get bored of decorating or arranging a room, consider mobile cabinets that you can move around whenever you want. Mounted on casters, these models are particularly practical when you want to clean up or change the arrangement of your furniture.
