An enema kit is a plastic bag that can hold up to approximately 2 litres of a liquid. It might be a good idea to start of with a water enema in which case you will only use pure water. The bag has a hose attached to it with a canula (mouthpiece with small tap) at the end of that. This is used to introduce water into the colon via the anus. The idea behind a water enema is of course to soak old excrement and waste products from the colon wall.
To prepare the enema kits you add one litre of water at body temperature (i.e. not too cold and not too warm) in the device. Allow some water to run through the hose to make sure there is no air inside and then hang it up at about shoulder length. You can hang it from a hook or bracket you use to hang towels in your bathroom for example.
The bathroom probably is the best place to do an enema, because you will have quick and easy access to the toilet. Your body will cool off during the enema, so if you do not want to use the bathroom, remember to use a room that is warm. Place a comfortable, thick towel on the floor, take off your underclothing, but leave your socks on (again to protect yourself against excessive cooling). Crouch down or lean on your knees and elbows and insert the mouthpiece approximately 2 to 3 cm into the anus. Do not insert it any further than that or you will hit the colon wall and this will stop the water from flowing freely. RunnersWorld suggest to apply some Vaseline or cream to the mouthpiece to avoid friction.
Do not use more than 300 to 600 cc of water during the first session because your intestines will still contain a large amount of excrement. As soon as you experience pressure you have to make your way to the toilet. Once the water and waste products have been released, you are ready for the second water enema session. This time you can use as much as 1 to 2 litres. Follow the same procedure. Please note! If no water and waste products are released after the first session, DO NOT start a second session. Should you experience any stomach aches when you introduce water into the colon, even if they are only minor aches, stop the procedure immediately.
You can also do some breathing exercises while you are doing the enema (here's a list of some useful breathing exercies) This is not compulsory, but it may improve the results. While the water is flowing into the colon, each time you breathe out, you hold your breath a few seconds at the lowest point of breathing out. This will create negative pressure in the stomach and water will be sucked in and reach higher parts of the colon. Once the water has been introduced, you can massage your stomach area, clockwise in circular motions. At this point you hold your breath for a few seconds at the end of breathing in. This stimulates the peristalsis reflex making for an easier and more complete bowel movement. Always breathe through your nose. Once all the water is released, your second session, i.e. the enema is completed.
Now you know exactly how to give an enema. Follow this procedure and you will soon get the hang of it. It will become as easy and simple as brushing your teeth or taking a shower.
